The Cemetery Printout: Notes

"The Cemetery Printout" [no call number] is a computer printout kept in the North Carolina Room at Gastonia Main. This survey was done in the mid-1970s. The notes were done at the time the printout was created so the directions may no longer be valid! Note: Each entry contains the Code used in this list, the Cemetery Name, and sometimes Notes.

 

  • AB Abernethy Family:
    The old private family burying ground of the Abernethy family. This cemetery is about one half mile from the highway on the south side of the North Belmont-McAdenville Road to Stanley. Large monument in center of plot with the following names on the sides: STONE-WITHERSPOON-SKIDMORE-ABERNETHY. Hollie Abernethy, Elizabeth Abernethy, Fannie Abernethy, Martha Abernethy, Margaret Abernethy, James S. Abernethy, Jerry Abernethy, C. Mark Abernethy, George W. Abernethy, Susan Abernethy, Susie Abernethy, Barnette Abernethy, William Abernethy, Miles Abernethy, Daniel L. Abernethy, Etta Skidmore, Manda Skidmore, Burke Abernethy, Tilman Stone, Frances Witherspoon, J. A. Abernethy.

  • BLA Black Family: Old Black family burying ground near Elsey Black home and not far from Farnsworth store on Cherryville-Bessemer Road. Has a wire fence around it and is in good condition. Has many nice monuments in it.

  • CA Carson: Carson burying gound is located on Bessemer City-High Shoals Road.
  • CCA Crowder's Creek ARP

  • CR Craig Family: Craig family burying ground near the old Craig and Jenkins homes in East Gastonia, also near Shiloh Cemetery. The following large monuments are in this unusually well kept cemetery: Jenkins, Craig, Craig, Hoffman, and Wilkins. This plot is walled in and has brick walks.
  • DA Davenport Family: Old Davenport family burying ground near old Davenport home and off Mt. Holly-Lowesville Road, Gaston County, N.C.

  • FR Froneberger Family: Is located off Besstown Road north of Bessemer City on the farm property of Everett Bess. Graves 1-3, 1-4, 1-5, 1-6, 1-7, 1-8, 1-9, 1-10, 1-11, 1-12, 1-13, 1-14, 2-1, 2-3, 3-7, 4-3, 4-4, 5-2, 5-4, 5-5, 5-7, 5-8, 5-9, 6-2, 6-8, 6-9, 6-10, 6-11, 6-13, 7-2, 7-7, 7-10, 8-1, 8-2 are either unmarked or illegible.

  • HA Hager Family: Hager family burying ground near old Moses Stroup place, Gaston Co., N.C.

  • HMD Herron Mason Dougan Family: H-M-D family burying ground on the farm of Mr. D. E. G. Pasour, near Dallas.

  • JQ John Quinn Family: The John Quinn Family burying ground near the residence, Cherryville, N.C.
  • KF Kiser Family: Near High Shoals.
  • KW Kiser Wilson: Off Huffstetler Road.
  • LC Landers Chapel
  • LCB Long Creek Baptist
  • LCP Long Creek Presbyterian: N.W. of Bessemer City on the head waters of Long Creek.
  • LR Lineberger Rhodes: Despite obvious efforts by someone to preserve this cemetery, vandals have broken stones and dug up graves.

  • MO Mt. Olivet Churchyard: Records of Mt. Olivet Churchyard near Myrtle Mill, Gastonia, N. C. 1976.
  • NH New Hope
  • OBD Old Beaver Dam Lutheran Churchyard: Marker on gate: In memory of our pioneer ancestors buried in this churchyard: Christian Mauney 1741-1815 Peter Mauney 1790-1840. The wall was erected by the children and grandchildren of William Andrew Mauney 1841-1929 in the year 1948.
  • OE Old Eaker Cemetery: Near Mr. Samuel Kiser's home on Cherryville-Webb's Chapel Road.

  • OPA Old Pisgah A. R. P.: Graves from Revolutionary era to approximately Civil War era, 1765-1860.

  • PC Pasour Family: Cloninger Rd., Dallas. Payour graveyard...on J. Bryan and Elenora Paysour Friday farm, on Cloninger Rd., Dallas, N.C. Graveyard is approx. 600 yards south of house, 300 yards s.e. of the barn in straight line from s. e. corner of barn near turn of pasture fence where wild cherry and hickory are close by. An old slave graveyard is across valley on hill...about 25 graves.
